The Ancient Music Cycle becomes the new bet of the Department of Culture (14/09/2018)

The Councilor for Culture, Isabel Sarmiento and the General Director of the Institute of Cultural Industries and Arts, Marta López-Briones have presented the First Cycle of Ancient Music to be held in Los Alcázares during the month of September in which attendees You will have an opportunity to discover the music of the Middle Ages, the Renaissance and the Baroque in an incomparable setting: Mar Menor.

The cycle will offer three concerts of high artistic quality with a marked informative character, designed so that the public can know and enjoy the music composed between the Discovery of America and the French Revolution, two historical milestones that would mark not only the conformation of Europe such and as we know it today, but also the evolution of Western music.

The musicians who will participate in the scheduled concerts, which will be held on the last three Saturdays of the month of September at the Club Náutico 'Mar Menor', are experts in historically informed interpretation and use interpretive instruments and criteria in accordance with those used in the Renaissance and the Baroque.

The concerts will be presented by the musicians themselves, who will introduce each work and composer, present their instruments and explain the details and curiosities of each of the pieces of the concert.

On Saturday, September 15, Sara Águeda will be in charge of offering the opening concert.

Specialized in the interpretation of the harp of two orders or historical harp and with international trajectory, Águeda will perform the program 'El arpa de nuestra tierra', with songs, dances and Spanish instrumental pieces of the Hispanic Renaissance.

The second concert will be held on Saturday, September 22, by the vocal quartet Cantoría, a vocal group from Murcia, directed by Jorge Losana and born in the ECOS International Festival of Ancient Music of Sierra Espuña, which will offer its program 'Bad Languages', with salads and villanescas of the Spanish Golden Age.

Supported by the Ministry of Culture and the Institute of Cultural Industries and Arts of the Region of Murcia, singers of Cantoría has recently been selected by the European promotion program EEEmerging and develops an increasing concert activity throughout Europe.

The instrumental duo Quebrado Barroco will offer a program of French and German baroque music for the closing of the cycle, which will be held on Saturday, September 29.

The concert will be given by Alejandro Fernández to the harpsichord and David Gutiérrez to the baroque cross, the ancestor of the flute.

Gutiérrez is also responsible for informative programs of the Early Music Project and will offer his particular vision of eighteenth-century music.

The mayor of Culture explained that "the cycle of old music is a great bet that has launched the Department of Culture, I have the feeling that it will have a very good reception, first because they are great artists and second because the concerts are offer in an idyllic setting, "he said.

For its part, the Director General of the Institute of Cultural Industries and the Arts has stressed that the municipality "is making a real bet for culture in capital letters," he said.

All concerts, which will start at 8:30 pm, are free entry with invitation, which can be retired at the Tourism Office of Los Alcázares from September 6, from 10 am to 2 pm.
