The City of Los Alcazares, has been awarded the 2010 Silver Broom in the twelfth edition of the contest organized by the Technical Association for Waste Management and Environment (ATEGRUS) in the framework of the XV Fair Planning and Environment , TECMA 2010, which is held biannually at the IFEMA fairgrounds in Madrid.
The Town Planning and Services, Francisco Muñoz Murcia, took that distinction from the president of ATEGRUS, Julian Uriarte.
The award recognizes good governance and work of the municipality to the environment, cleaning, waste management, environmental sensitivity and technology innovation in these services.
Since the service was awarded to the company Urbaser and the new contract began in 2009, have incorporated improvements and new features adapting the latest technologies in waste collection and cleaning procedures to the singularities of the municipality.
The mayor Francisco Murcia take this award as "recognition of the efforts made by the council in cleaning and waste collection" but argues that his goal is to "continue improving day to day services we provide to the people" and recognizes that "important part of the credit goes to the neighbors who are struggling to keep clean Los Alcazares.
Pursuant to the partnership in the contest, the "brooms" are an attempt to assess and distinguish between those activities and work that has been done to improve or defend the management of waste cleanup and solid waste management in general in our cities and of our industries, rewarding the efforts and achievements in order to stimulate awareness and technological advances that serve to keep improving our quality of life and sustainability of our cities and industries. "
