The president of the Community, Pedro Antonio Sanchez, said today at the opening in Los Alcázares of the biogas plant Kernel Export, which "by its capacity for innovation and generate employment, agricultural enterprises are examples of good practice and what is now the Region of Murcia, a place of entrepreneurs who do not resign themselves and know grow. Kernel Export is a leading producer of fruit and vegetables fresh, processed and organic crops destined for markets across Europe company.

The region is a leader in the Spanish exports of fruit and vegetables, as 7 out of 10 fruits and vegetables that are produced here are exported.

The regional food industry "is associated with quality, job creation, exports and research capacity and innovation," said the president.

27 percent of the cultivated area in the region is environmentally friendly.

In 2016, the regional government will allocate 6 million euros to organic farming and by 2020 this aid will exceed 53 million euros and an estimated 4,500 families will benefit.

Social commitment and environmental

Kernel Export is a leading producer of lettuce, escarole, broccoli, celery, cabbage, spinach, cantaloupe, cabbage, cauliflower, among others.

It has an annual production of over 25,000 tons, has about 2,000 hectares of own production and more than 400 organic production.

It is anticipated that the biogas plant for the recovery of agricultural waste with subsequent composting process can treat 19,000 tonnes per year in the anaerobic digester and 5,400 tons of compost.

This process allows a form of renewable energy (biogas) and turning them into fertilizer value waste for agricultural use.

Basically, the treatment will occur on horticultural waste (pumpkins, melons, broccoli and lettuce mainly), the food industry sludges and manures, among others.

In addition to the commitment to the environment, Kernel Export participates in various social causes contributing 3 tons of products weekly to Jesus Forsaken, Caritas or the nuns of asylum Cartagena, Caravaca and Ciudad Real, that these entities distributed among the neediest families.
