Culture delivers half a thousand books to the Library of Los Alcázares to mitigate the losses suffered in the floods (09/05/2017)

The Minister of Tourism, Culture and the Environment, Javier Celdrán, delivered today to the mayor of Los Alcázares, Anastasio Bastida, of half thousand books for the Municipal Public Library 'Miguel Galindo' in order to cover part of the losses caused by The floods of last December and that affected mainly the funds of children's and young people's literature.

Celdrán announced at this event the launch of the first contest of micro-stories of the Mar Menor.

This activity, which will take place during next June, "will contribute to promote young writers and encourage writing and reading, since an edition will be made with the five short stories to be distributed on the beaches during July and August ".

Both the readers, through their votes, and a specialized jury will be in charge of choosing the winner of the contest, who will receive a cash prize.

Plan to promote reading

Most of the volumes delivered correspond to books for children and young people, "a particularly important reading public that we care from the regional government and which we will take into account in the actions of the Plan to promote reading," said the head of Culture .

For this initiative, the Government envisages in its 2017 budgets a total of 100,000 euros with which, "in addition to actions such as increasing the funds of public libraries and the total number of users of the network, will launch specific initiatives In schools that strengthen the habit of reading and love for the culture of the smallest ".
