Encarna Mayor Gil has received this morning from the president of the Hydrographic Confederation of Segura (CHS), Charo Quesada, the keys of the gates made in the drainage channel D-7 passing through the town.
These four new gates in times of heavy rain, avoid the overflow channel to derive its channel to channel in Las Lomas del Rame which flows into the sea.
"It's a very important and necessary action, as in the recent floods of 2009 we had to break this wall blades late at night to avoid flooding the city center and facilitate follow from the water channel Rame" - declared Mayor of Los Alcazares.
The drain D-7 is an artificial channel designed to channel to the Rambla del Albujón water from surface runoff in cold drop times the area of Los Alcazares and irrigation return.
The problem arises when there is heavy rain and low Albujón Rambla filled with water as the canal water did not flow into it and overflow, causing flooding.
The event was attended by the delegate of the Government in Murcia, Rafael González Tovar because the investment of the works, which amounted to 1.25 billion euros, from funds of the Plan E 2009.
This action has enabled the achievement of three objectives: reducing the risk of flooding in the town, improving the quality of water resources to agriculture through reuse and to brackish water discharges to the lagoon of Mar Minor.
The CHS undertook the improvement of the performance of D-7 through existing vegetation clearing, development of ATM, the re-growth and consolidation of sections of 700 meters on the left bank of the canal, as well as the introduction of species native shrubs and other repair work.
The works have affected a 3.5 km stretch that runs parallel to the AP-7 and is from the point of confluence with the promenade of La Marana and its mouth in the Rambla del Albujón.
