The Ministry of Water, Agriculture, Livestock, Fisheries and Environment will invest 500,000 euros in improvement works in the sanitation network of Los Alcázares to avoid possible spills of sewage into the Mar Menor.
Some works announced once the General Directorate of Water has evaluated municipal sewerage networks near the Mar Menor, specifically in Los Narejos Avenue, Los Narejos Beach, Nueva Ribera Avenue and Playa del Espejo.
In the field study, carried out in different inspection campaigns using closed circuit cameras, the different deterioration of the networks and the possible leaks and infiltrations have been observed.
The improvement works will consist of the rehabilitation of pipes by continuous sleeve, along 1,418 meters, in the case of collectors with a high or intermediate degree of deterioration, and the installation of 'packers', in the case of specific incidents in collectors with little deterioration.
In addition, some log wells will be rehabilitated.
The General Director of Water, Sebastián Delgado, met today with the mayor of Los Alcázares, Mario Cervera, who urged the City Council to continue the inspection of its sanitation network and act in those situations in which failures are detected in the network, "since it is a municipal competition".
In this regard, Delgado insisted on the need to implement a municipal annual maintenance plan "so that any deficiency can be detected as soon as possible, without the need for these extraordinary inspections."
