The Ministry of Water, Agriculture and Environment is conducting a pilot basis denitrification water drain Field Cartagena, on the premises of the wastewater treatment plant in Los Alcázares, where it has installed a new system of biofiltration to remove transforming water nitrates into nitrogen.
The yields of the plant so far reached 97 percent.
The Minister Adela Martinez-Cacho, accompanied by the mayor of Los Alcazares, Anastasio Bastida, today visited the pilot plant installed in the industrial water treatment plant (WWTP) of the town, where he explained that "this is one of the new systems which it is implementing the Council to remove nitrate discharges to the Mar Menor and help preserve and maintain our lagoon ".
The pilot plant began tests last May 25 and has a pump inlet, injection of different reagents for the preparation of water and pH regulation, bio glass filter, aeration, sand filter refining and probe continuous control of nitrate both input and output.
The plant with biofiltration system is being serviced daily by collecting data, supply of reagents, flow control and water supply drainage channel.
It is monitored by the company 'noNO3', with Internet access, plus a technician oversees the plant daily.
Since the launch of the system has gone through different phases, such as increasing the maximum flow to treatment pilot plant (which is 3.6 m3 per day), or the determination of the dose of reagents maximum removal of nitrates.
The removal efficiencies obtained so far have reached 97 percent.
This pilot, which will run until next July 10, is part of the actions that the Ministry of Water, Agriculture and Environment is underway to find alternatives to help remove nitrates from water drain Campo de Cartagena.
