The Ministry of Water, Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries is going to carry out identification work on critical sections where exfiltration and infiltration in sanitary sewers is detected in the population centers next to the Mar Menor.
The General Directorate of Water has asked the municipalities around the lagoon for the necessary information to undertake a comprehensive project that will correct the existing deficiencies with the objective, as pointed out by the Minister of Water, Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries, Francisco Jódar, his meeting with the mayor of Los Alcázares, Anastasio Bastida, to "improve municipal sanitation and avoid any loss of water, especially in these times".
The Ministry has sent a letter to the mayors of San Pedro del Pinatar, San Javier, Los Alcázares and Cartagena in which they are requested to collaborate.
After the detection of these critical points, it is intended to carry out an action plan to prevent the infiltration of saline water into the collectors, which, according to the councilor, "will result in an improvement in the quality of the water that will later go to the purification plant, making them also more profitable for agriculture ".
Finally, once these points are corrected, the Ministry plans to carry out a waterproofing of the collectors of these municipalities, thereby avoiding one hundred percent of the leakage of sanitation water to the land.
