The director general of Sport and Physical Activity, Antonio Peñalver, today introduced the I Kiteboarding World Championship, Grand Prix High Performance Eurosafe, to be held from 12 to 16 October at the High Performance Center 'Infanta Cristina' of Los Alcazares.
Participating in the test a total of 22 countries, 150 sailors and 100 boats.
The event welcomes also the international regatta 29erXX classes, Class A Catamaran, Formula 18 and Moth, considered "the high technology of sailing" as described by Peñalver.
Peñalver, who was accompanied by the mayor of Los Alcazares, Anastasio Bastida, and Vice President of the European Federation of Vela, Rafael González, stressed the importance for the region to hold this first edition of the championship "is going to be a important turning point in the development, dissemination and claims I may have the Mar Menor ".
In this sense, the director general said that events like this "help to publicize them has excellent characteristics that this area of ​​the region for the practice of sailing sports."
The countries participating in the race are the United States, Canada, Colombia, Portugal, Andorra, England, France, Italy, Germany, Switzerland, Holland, Denmark, Sweden, Finland, Belgium, Ireland, Bulgaria, Turkey, Australia, Russia, Cyprus and Spain.
Among the 150 sailors who are part of the championship is the double gold medalist and Australian Olympic champion Mitch Booth.
As for the press, the event will be attended by journalists from England, America, France, Italy, Australia, Germany and Spain.
As for side events taking place during the days of the championship will be held the Annual Meeting of the International Kiteboarding Association (IKA), with representation from the countries attending the meeting of the Executive Committee of the European Federation of Sailing and the visit of the International Sailing Federation for his vice president Theresa Lara of Venezuela.
