The town of Los Alcazares Murcia hosts from tomorrow until February 16 the first world championship Kite Cross, to be held in waters of the Mar Menor, opposite the High Performance Centre Infanta Cristina.
This first global specialty is held under the High Performance I Eurosafe Grand Prix, which also is part of an international regatta sailing classes 29erXX, Class Catamaran, Formula 18 and Moth.
In all the different modalities involved in a hundred boats and over 150 athletes from 22 countries, among which the presence of Australia Mitch Booth, double Olympic medalist and ten-time world champion in Formula 18 and Tornado, among other classes.
Among the competitors include American Kite Cross Damien Leroy and Bryan Lake, and the French and Bruno Sroka Kerneur Julian, who will face, among others, local sportsmen and Gonzalo Garijo Pedro Alcazar.
In females, the champion of Spain Elena Antón shall be measured at Merve Ceylan Turkish, French and German Adrien Carolina Kristin Boese, which start as favorites.
The Cross is a specialty Kite Kiteboard technically demanding, in which athletes must make a tour in 'W' with constant changes of direction and is located close to the beach, which increases the spectacular nature of this discipline, that could soon be declared Olympics.
For their part, dinghies competing in the waters of Mar Menor are remarkable for their speed, lightness and high cost, from the high technological level that are designed, making them very attractive to sports fans .
The athletes of different disciplines will have tomorrow a day of official practice before the races that count, taking place from day 13 until next Sunday.
The competition is organized by the European Federation of Sailing (EuroSafe), in collaboration with national federations and Murcia, Kateboarding International Association (IKA), the Higher Sports Council, the Community of Murcia, the City of Los Alcazares and yacht clubs in the area.
As part of this sporting event, which will be attended by the vice president of the International Sailing Federation, the Venezuelan Theresa Lara, also held the annual meeting of the IKA and the executive committee meeting of the European Federation of Sailing.
