The Governing Council has approved the granting of aid to the community of irrigators 'Campo de Cartagena' for an amount of 1.6 million euros for the development of a proposed use of reclaimed wastewater from the treatment plant Los Alcazares.
This assistance will be financed by 75 percent in 2013 and 2014 annuities, by the European Agricultural Fund for Rural Development (EAFRD), while the Community contributes 15 percent and the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Environment October 1 percent.
This investment will act on an area of ​​11,500 hectares in 50 percent of horticultural crops and 30 percent of citrus, while the remaining 20 percent will be for greenhouses and other woody crops.
The number of beneficiaries will be of 2,383 villagers, who farm about 5805 plots.
The irrigation community has an approximate area of ​​24,000 hectares located between the towns of Cartagena, Los Alcázares, Torre Pacheco, San Javier and Fuente Alamo, among others.
