The award recognizes the excellent conditions of the Mar Menor to practice water sports and activities, and the quality of municipal services and the tourism sector
The director of the Institute of Tourism, Manuel Fernández-Delgado, chaired this morning the act of lifting the Nautical Flag granted to the Nautical Mar Menor-Cabo de Palos, which took place in Carrión Playa de Los Alcázares, opposite the Spa of the Incarnation.
Fernandez-Delgado emphasized that "this distinction recognizes the Mar Menor as a tourist destination of excellence for sports and nautical activities."
The ceremony was also attended by the Council of Tourism of Cartagena, Palazón Carolina;
San Javier, Antonio Martinez;
Los Alcázares, Maite Olmos;
and San Javier, Antonio Garcia, as representatives of the municipalities that are part of this Murcia tourist destination.
The award, which was presented during the last edition of the International Tourism Fair of Madrid (Fitur 2015) by the president of the Spanish Association of Marine Resorts, Joan Campolier, and Deputy Director General for Development and Sustainable Tourism, Tatiana Maria Martinez Ramos "distinguishes the Mar Menor as one of the best national sailing destinations for the value of its tourism, nautical and sporting activities", said the director of the Institute of Tourism.
Likewise, he added that "this distinction also recognizes the quality of the services provided by the Murcia municipalities and companies belonging to the nautical network, such as accommodation, companies of nautical activities, restoration, organization of nautical events and offer specialized products, ready to marketing ".
More than 200,000 tourists chose the Region of Murcia in 2014 to do some boating activity.
They counted for it with 30 centers there stationed along the Costa Calida to practice all kinds of water and underwater sports such as diving, canoeing, kayaking, sailing, windsurfing, paddle surfing, catamaran, jet boating , water skiing, rent sailboats with or without skipper, boat trips and snorkelling.
Second tourist product with the greatest potential in the Region
According to the Institute of Tourism, the yacht is valued as the most promising tourism product in the region of Murcia, with 8 out of 10, behind only sun and beach, with 8.1.
Also, the nautical-sport is one of the products most valued by international tourists and has an average spending close to 67 euros a day, above which generates the sun and beach segment.
Spanish tourists who visit the region to enjoy your nautical offer mainly from Madrid, Andalusia, Castile-La Mancha and Valencia;
while among foreign predominate in the UK, Germany, Norway, France and Holland.
The average length of stay for this type of tourism more than 15 days, making this tourist segment in the case of longer stays.
The loyalty of these tourists to the Region of Murcia as a holiday destination is very high, as 96.8 percent of them had visited the region before.
